       Twice Burned by Emily Goodwin

             Review by Ashley Gill
Title: Twice Burned Author : Emily Goodwin Model : Nick Bennet and Pamela Brisson Photographer: Sara Eirew Genre: Contemporary Romance Release Date: March 1st
                                                                        I've been Burned Before
once by love, twice by fire.

And I don't know which hurt worse.
For years , I've been playing with fire. Both in the sheets and in the streets. But after a life changing accident, something had to give. Moving from Chicago to New York to live with my estranged brother is less than ideal, but its the only temporary. To make through the next year without killing each other, I need to stick to a few simple rules : no dating, no drama, no getting in each other's business. Easy enough right?

Then I met her, and the rules went out the window. Problem is, he met her first.
Twice Burned is the highly anticipated finale to the Love is Messy Duet by Emily  Goodwin.
Review
Twice Burned is the sequel to Emily Goodwin's Hot Mess so if you haven't read Hot Mess stop reading this review immediately and go read it!

Assuming you took you my advice and read Hot Mess we can continue to the Twice Burned review .
Hot Mess left us with "he's awake" my reaction being WHO. THE. Hells Awake ? I knew immediately I needed more because I sat up in my bed all night with different scenarios running around in my head but thankfully Twice Burned answered my questions in the first chapter.
Luke was a medical student in Chicago and after his and his roommate Jose's apartment complex caught on fire and killed six people including two children they knew they needed to be firefighters. They had one motto
Two in ,two out .
Jose and Luke were called to a home that was on fire, there was a lady stuck in a wheelchair on the second floor. Luke climbed the ladder to the second floor, grabbed the lady and handed her off to a fellow fire fighter on the ladder. As Luke was about to dive out of harms way himself the floor collapsed and he fell to the first floor.  Two in, two out Jose comes to rescue his friend but the structure couldn't hold up any longer and lands on top of both of them. Pulled out of the debris by their fellow firefighters Luke woke up with some burns but Jose didn't wake up .
Jose was in a coma, badly burned his skin was peeling off and his muscles were deteriorating  and Luke couldn't take seeing his friend like that. Jose didn't want to be kept alive by a machine but his wife Caroline couldn't bare to let go especially after finding out she was pregnant a month after the accident. Luke takes off to New York to stay in Grandparents home that was left to him and his brother Cole.
Lexi works in the book world as an editor, she's a mom of two precious little girls and the ex wife of one smart ass jerk named Russell. Like any working single mom she juggles work, motherhood and trying to have a personal life. Lexi met Luke in a bar when the plan was suppose to be a one night stand but has blossomed into so much more. Luke's brother Cole just happens to be Lexi's boss , Lexi had crushed him for years and they never had more than a professional relationship until Cole sees her with Luke and then he becomes very adamant that Luke isn't good enough telling her any chance he can and FINALLY we learn why he feels this way and it's all just a big misunderstanding.
Lexi and Luke go through a few ups and downs within the book but nothing too big to where they can't fix their relationship. I fell in love with Lexi's character in Hot Mess and I decided I wanted to leave my own husband and marry Luke after Twice Burned. I can pin point the moment I fell in love , Lexi's asshole ex husband Russell comes to pick up the girls and Luke overhears him calling her an idiot. Luke sends the girls outside and tells Russell.
"You're divorced, you don't like each other. I get it. But those  two little girls are watching and see you treat their mother like shit. I hope you care enough about your daughters to not want them to be treated the way you treat Lexi. "
Yep fell in love right then and there. Marking Luke down as my favorite book boyfriend immediately! I don't always read books where the characters are parents even though I am a parent because the relationships never seem realistic. Most of the time their children come off as annoying, four year old children being quoted to sound like toddlers or they barely acknowledge their children  because they're always with a sitter or grandparents but within this series you care about Lexi's girls Page and Grace.
Its now March and I have two favorite books of the year Hot Mess and Twice Burned by Emily Goodwin. I'm not suggesting you to read this duet but demanding you read it, seriously why would you want to miss out on my favorite books of the year ? I laughed and cried reading Twice Burned, the ending was my favorite so many happy tears.

Emily Goodwin is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of over a dozen romantic titles. Emily writes the kind of books she likes to read, and is a sucker for a swoon-worthy bad boy and happy ever after.
She lives in the midwest with her husband and two daughters. When she's not writing, youc an find her riding her horses, hiking, reading, or drinking wine with her friends.
