Preston's Honor Review

Preston's Honor
Author : Mia Sherdian
Review : Ashley Lynn Gill

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

REVIEW:

Annalia.... oh Annalia I love you so! One of the strongest characters that I have gotten the pleasure to know. Born in the United States to an undocumented Mexican mother , they live in poverty in an old shed that was converted into makeshift home . Their home boarders the Sawyer Farm where Annalia's mother use to pick strawberries for a living but now she works in a hotel as a maid. Through helping her mother when she was younger she met the Sawyer boy's Preston and Cole.

Preston and Cole Sawyer are identical twins with very different personalities. Cole is very playful, all about having a good time and counting down his days until he can get out of the small farm town he's grown up in. Preston on the other hand is very serious, everything he does is very thought out and his life's passion is to run the farm he's lived on his entire life. But they have on thing in common... they both love Annalia.

One race determined who got to ask Annalia out, while Annalia loved both boys she loved them in different ways. Cole was like her big brother, she liked the easy conversations, day dreaming together about leaving their small town and the playful teasing. Preston held her heart and she held his. He was her protector and the love of her life and she was his.
Lia had the type of beauty that would last until she was ninety. It was as if God had decided to make her lovely and gotten a bit carried away.~ Preston Sawyer

Part of my love for Preston was like a slow-moving river that had gained breadth and speed over time. And another apart came in short bursts of white-hot lightning, marking the very moments when the love in my heart had charged and intensified. ~ Annalia

This was a five star read for me, I loved everything about it. I cried happy tears but I also shed a lot of ugly ones. Reading the prologue I had the mindset of disliking Annalia immediately , how could one just leave their child? As I read more and more I began to fall in love with her. I have never known a character to have as much strength as she had. So selfless always putting the needs of others in front of her own. I loved her relationship with both Cole and Preston, they were the only light in her darkness at times.

Mia Sherdian knocked this book out of the ballpark, Beautifully written  with such a deep story line that held my attention the entire time. This is a love story but also a people story, there were so many times within the book that I cried because of how Annalia was treated for being poor or for being Mexican. My heart broke that in this day and age people are still shunned because of the color of their skin or how much money they have.
