Frenzy

After the world was ravaged by a viral apocalypse, Blackwater is one of the only colonies that remains. The survivors came together to create this safe haven. Nestled between a fierce river and a city’s flood wall, the well-being of its residents hangs on a long-established treaty with the night-walkers. Sounds simple enough, but lately, the people of Blackwater have been dying, and the humans believe the night-walkers are to blame.
Porschia Grant starves for more than her parents’ affection. Forced to enter the rotation, she will be given extra food rations in exchange for becoming a vampire’s breakfast and dinner for a week. The rotation has an extra responsibility as well: leave the colony and enter the dangerous forest to hunt for food. A night-walker will protect the hunters from the infected that roam the woods. But with the treaty hanging in the balance and tension between the humans and vampires rising, anything could happen in the darkness.
What would you do if your only chance at survival might kill you?
Review:
Seriously…I love Paranormal! Love, love, love it. And it’s even better when it’s done right. In my opinion, Casey nailed it! Frenzy is definitely one of my top reads for 2017 so far.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world full of disease and curses, the small town of Blackwater is the only one left. Everyone lives in Blackwater as if it’s the pioneer days. Long skirts and dresses, hard work days, and EVERYONE has to pull their weight. There are only two options for the way of life there for a woman…marry and hope your husband can provide, or join The Rotation.
The Rotation is the dreaded week long hunt outside of the small town consisting of a handful of townspeople and Night-Walkers. The townspeople have an agreement with the Night-Walkers to where they will accompany the people and ensure their safety while they hunt, as long as the people hunting “feed” the Night-Walkers.
Outside the safety of Blackwater is a horrible disease that has affected people’s minds to their basic need…to eat. Just one touch will infect you. Which is why the protection from the Night-Walkers is necessary. It’s a literal give and take relationship.
Porschia finds herself stuck with The Rotation as her only option of feeding her family. But, she also finds a childhood friend who can walk her through the tough decision and protect her from the dangers outside.
Saul… he’s definitely swoon worthy. He is always there for help and support even to the point of giving Porschia his extra rations for the day. Soon Porschia finds herself really falling for Saul, but it’s not easy to fall for a human when you have a Night-Walker (or two) obsessed with you as well.
I loved this book. I never knew what was going to happen next. And when I thought I knew which way was up, I was thrown through another loop. I STILL can’t quite figure it out. Good thing this is only the first book to a series. I felt like I was right there next to Porschia. I couldn’t get away from the troubles in her life, couldn’t figure myself out and I loved it! I can’t wait to dive into the next installment. Two thumbs up for Frenzy!
